Parq Spa Experience in JW Marriot Downtown Vancouver

Published: May 20, 2026 by vancouver · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

A solo Mother's Day spa visit at Parq Spa in Vancouver where upscale amenities, thoughtful rituals, and blissful solitude made for the ultimate day of self-care.

Waiting area of the JW spa with lounge chairs and snack station.

I had the chance to make a visit to the Parq spa today as part of my early Mother's Day celebration. We usually celebrate Mother's Day together with the entire extended family which includes both my and my husband's mom. My spa visit today was intended as a day just for me, allowing me time alone to decompress and relax without worrying about the daily tasks of childrearing and the overstimulation of being around young children all day, every day.

Before I left, my kids (7, 4 & 4 yrs) asked me who I was going to the spa with. I told them, "by myself". They replied, "But you'll be all by yourself, Mommy." I excitedly told them, "Yes, and I can't wait!" Funnily enough, I was literally mostly all alone during my spa experience and it was pure bliss! More on that later.

The staff made me feel completely welcomed, and the facilities and amenities were upscale and plentiful - though one area could use a small refresh. I stayed for 3 hours but I definitely could have stayed much longer! I was even encouraged to head out for lunch and return to enjoy the amenities afterward, which I thought was a lovely and generous touch. I highly recommend Parq Spa to anyone seeking a premium yet welcoming and unpretentious experience. It's an especially perfect fit for a solo day out. Just be sure to book on a weekday and block off your entire day, because you'll want every minute of it.

XOXO,
Mimi

Arrival & First Impressions

From the moment I walked through the door, I was warmly greeted by a staff member who was still in the midst of setting up for the day. I was the very first client to arrive. Rather than making me feel like I was intruding on her morning routine, she took the time to give me a full tour of the facility, walking me through every space at an unhurried pace.

After that, she had me partake in a small ritual, where she asked me to write down a wish on a piece of paper. She then gently placed it into a bowl of water - a symbolic ceremony intended to help bring that wish to life. It was such a thoughtful and unexpected touch, the kind of detail that immediately signals this place is about more than just pampering the body. It sets an intention for your visit, inviting you to slow down, turn inward, and arrive with purpose.

Facilities & Amenities

The facilities at Parq Spa are thoughtfully designed to take you through a natural flow of relaxation and every space along the way reflects that intention.

Upon arrival, I was ushered into the first of two quiet lounges to await my treatment. This room immediately set the tone for the day, offering plush sofa chairs and a stunning view of False Creek from the 17th floor of the Parq Hotel. It was also stocked with fresh-squeezed orange juice and energy balls - a welcome and nourishing touch that felt far more considered than the typical infused water you might expect elsewhere.

The second lounge was reserved for post-treatment, and it did not disappoint. Roughly eight individual chaise lounge chairs were lined with soft pillows and blankets, creating a cocoon-like setting designed for maximum comfort. A cup of hot tea and a snack mix were served, and with another serene view of False Creek as the backdrop, there was truly no reason to rush back to the real world.

The pre-treatment waiting area is connected to the nail bar. There are energy balls and fresh squeezed orange juice for guests.

Stepping outside, the spa offers an outdoor hydrotherapy tub that is shared with hotel guests. During my visit, only one other guest was using it, it was intimate without being awkward. Though the hot tub can comfortably accommodate around six people, the sweet spot is likely a smaller group. Surrounding the tub are several outdoor lounge chairs where you can soak up some sun, all set against a breathtaking skyline view. This outdoor area connects to a large patio which is the designated spot for ordering and enjoying meals through the spa. Although you can have spa provided snacks in the lounge areas, meals can only be eaten here so keep that in mind in the colder months.

For those who want to work up a sweat before unwinding, the spa also provides access to a generously sized, well-equipped gym that is share with hotel guests.

And the steam room, while a staple of any solid spa experience, is worth a brief note: the grey color scheme of the space can give an impression of being less pristine than it actually is, a small refresh would make this space more inviting. For this reason, I only used it for a short while. One practical concern also worth mentioning is a loose, elevated panel on one side of the seating, which is a minor but important maintenance and safety issue that would be worth the spa's attention.

There were three showers in total, including one wheelchair-accessible unit. They were well appointed and stocked with high-end Molton Brown body care products, adding a luxurious finishing touch to the post-treatment routine. (I'm in love with their Rosemary shampoo! My hair smelled amazing until I washed it again.) The change room rounded out the experience beautifully, offering individual washrooms, hotel-style keypad-secured lockers, plush robes, rubber slippers, a water station, and both hair curlers and blow dryers.

Overall, the facilities were very clean and well thought out. The steam room could have used a refresh. A few small refinements aside, this is a space that has been designed with genuine intention for guest comfort.

My Treatment: I opted for a 45-minute relaxation massage, not a registered massage therapy (RMT) session, but one purely intended to help you decompress and melt away tension, which it delivered on beautifully.

Before the massage began, I was asked to choose from one of four Tara aromatherapy oils, a small but meaningful touch that added a personalized experience.

The massage itself was wonderfully relaxing, and the session ran exactly on schedule, starting and ending on time without exception. One thing worth noting is that the 45 minutes includes the time spent selecting your oil and getting settled, so the hands-on massage time is slightly less than the full booking. If you prefer a longer active massage time, it would be worth booking a 60-minute session or longer to ensure you get the full experience you're looking for.

Service: The service at Parq Spa struck exactly the right balance - warm and friendly without ever feeling intrusive, and professional without feeling stiff or impersonal. The spa appeared to be fully staffed throughout my visit, and it showed in the little details that quietly elevated the entire experience.

There was always someone nearby to clear my plates, point me in the right direction, or simply anticipate what I might need next. The moment I finished using my shower, it was cleaned immediately, a small but telling sign of the standards they hold themselves to. In doing so, they were able to find and quickly return my favourite Tacha face wash that I accidently left in the shower. The level of care and attentiveness are the kinds of touches that make you want to come back.

Snacks, Beverages & Food: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and alcoholic drinks can be ordered through the spa but it has to be consumed in the outdoor patio area by the hydrotherapy tub. The menu consists of your typical hotel room-service offerings.

Parking lot entrance of JW spa.
The underground parking lot on 39 Smithe Street is accessible via Pacific Boulevard going Northbound. You'll see signage for it when you have pulled up to the front entrance of the Parq Hotel/Casino. Take an elevator up to the main floor of the hotel, take a short walk past Honey & Salt restaurant, go down the hallway and take another elevator up to the 17th floor.

Parking: There's plenty of hotel parking in the underground parkade for $5/hour or $20/day. There isn't many public street parking spaces within close proximity to the hotel. If you don't mind walking further down then build in time to find street parking.

Parking is not comped by the spa but Encore Rewards members can get free parking by using their card to play table games or slots at the casino, then registering their license plate at Guest Services on Level 2. A minimum of 15 points must be earned to qualify
